From a Life of Brokenness to a Mission of Hope, Healing, and Restoration
Leonard Rivas is more than a community leader, crisis intervention specialist, and advocate for vulnerable populations. He is a survivor, a testament to transformation, and a living example that no life is beyond restoration.
As a survivor of childhood sexual exploitation, Leonard experienced firsthand the devastating effects of trauma, which led him down a path of substance abuse and involvement with the justice system. However, his story did not end there.
At the age of 35, Leonard made a life-changing decision to enter the Victory Outreach Men's Recovery and Leadership Center. What followed was a complete 180-degree transformation. Through faith, discipline, mentorship, and personal accountability, Leonard successfully graduated from the program and went on to pursue his education in theology, discovering a greater purpose for his life: helping others overcome the very circumstances that once held him captive.
Leonard's passion for transforming lives opened the door to serve with the City of Los Angeles Mayor's Gang Reduction and Youth Development (GRYD) program. Through this initiative, he worked directly with high-risk and justice-impacted youth, providing gang intervention, mentorship, crisis response, and guidance toward educational opportunities and vocational career pathways.
For the past decade, Leonard has expanded his mission to include rescuing and supporting individuals escaping human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and domestic violence. His work goes beyond immediate crisis intervention, helping survivors access emergency shelter, transitional housing, education, employment opportunities, and the resources necessary to rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.
With 26 years of experience working with crisis-involved youth, adults, and families, Leonard has established a strong track record of helping individuals navigate some of life's most difficult circumstances and move toward lasting transformation.
Today, as Founder and CEO of First Responders Family Services (FRFS), Leonard brings together his lived experience, professional expertise, and unwavering faith to lead an organization committed to reaching those often overlooked, underserved, and forgotten.
“Your past does not have to determine your future. With the right intervention, support, and opportunity, every life has the potential to be transformed.”
Breaking cycles. Building pathways.
Through First Responders Family Services, Leonard is committed to breaking cycles of exploitation, violence, addiction, and generational trauma by providing compassionate crisis intervention, survivor advocacy, and pathways toward long-term stability.
For Leonard, this is more than a profession. It is his calling, his purpose, and his life's mission.
